A recurring forum convened by the LSE China-Africa Initiative, bringing policymakers, diplomats, investors, scholars and student leaders from Africa, China and beyond into open dialogue on the relationship shaping the African century.
China has become Africa's largest investor and biggest trading partner, and a growing source of soft power on the continent. Each edition of the conference takes up that relationship from a new angle.
The 2023 edition came in a pivotal year for the relationship, with the BRICS Summit held in South Africa and the African Union's admission to the G20. The day was built around open, candid exchange, and the policy lunch dialogue was held off the livestream for that reason.

The first China-Africa Conference addressed the deepening relationship between China and the African continent and marked the launch of the China-Africa Initiative at the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa. It was preceded by a month-long series of fireside chats, remarks and a debate.
